RaceVision technology conquered the many technical difficulties found in producing a display that could be used on deck, in a marine environment. Initial attempts lead to screens that were very heavy, bulky, unreliable and expensive, whereas the RaceVision and now RaceVision 2 offer a full colour, lightweight, waterproof, sunlight-viewable on-deck LCD display.
The B&G RaceVision was developed by Diverse in 2001 and has since been superseded by the RaceVision 2, which Diverse also helped develop and which offers more advanced technology than the original. Steve Hayles, Diverse's Technical Director, was involved with the Race Vision development process from the beginning. His experience and ability to understand new technology along with developing much needed solutions, had a big influence on the Race Vision 2.
The RaceVision 2 is the only wireless, robust and waterproof tablet PC, specifically engineered for the marine environment. Unlike the first RaceVision which had a separate screen and computer connected by a wire, the RaceVision 2 is wireless and the PC tablet removes the need for a separate computer unit. The RV2 connects wirelessly to a transceiver, which in turn connects to a Processor that picks up and sends all data back to the tablet.
The touch screen wireless unit can be used from anywhere on deck due to it's rugged, fully sealed aluminium alloy case and has a fully waterproof long reach charge lead. It runs Windows XP tablet software and has a specially designed pen to use with the touch screen. When taken off the boat, the RV2 can still be used as a laptop to study stored data or connect to the Internet.
Our full RaceVision 2 specification also includes a complete integrated electronic charting and performance analysis package. Deckman for Windows, initially developed by Sailmath and now a B&G product, offers a variety of useful race functions. DFW is a highly acclaimed software package which has seen success on the race course in events such as the America's Cup, Around Alone Race, and the Volvo as well as being seen on many boats in the best one design fleets such as the Farr 40's.
