“We selected Diverse Yachts not only as the supplier of superior sensors but for their system overview and service at the world’s major regattas.” Phil Walker, Project Manager, Y3K
The new Y3K Wally 100.3 has been built by Wally Yachts for Mr Claus Peter Offen. The yacht was launched in Ancona, Italy in July ‘09 after being built at the Wally yard located in Fano, Italy. The yacht is a further development of the previous Y3K that was recently built for the same Owner. Diverse Yacht Services were approached in the summer of ’08 with a specific request to design, install and commission the “racing” electronics to be installed on the boat.
This task was accomplished by pooling the vast product knowledge of Diverse Yachts UK with the on-site management qualities of Diverse Yacht Italy. Diverse Italy managed the project with Wally from beginning to end and Diverse UK flew to Italy to do the install.
The system supplied is based around the B&G WTP2 Processor, and includes the most cutting edge sensors in order to maximize the accuracy of the data provided by the processor itself. Among the items supplied there is a 2 metre custom VMHU with increased stiffness, a solid state compass, a DGPS 5 Hz antenna, together with special speed and depth sensors. The request for having a complete control of the heavy loads induced by the rig, for both monitoring and tuning purposes, was accomplished with the supply of custom loadcells to measure the forestay, vang and mainsheet loads. An additional 20T wireless loadlink has been also supplied as a portable loadcell to measure any running rigging load.
The success of this Project is already in the books, as the Y3K went on to win the Maxi Yacht World Championship in the Wally Division in Porto Cervo, Italy, just one month after launch!
“Y3k 100.03 is the development of a series of successful racing yachts over a period of ten years. During that time, the project has required increased accuracy and data acquisition. We selected Diverse Yachts not only as the supplier of superior sensors but for their system overview and service at the world’s major regattas.” PHIL WALKER, Project Manager Y3K
